Watch BBC iPlayer Outside UK – Another Simple Guide

BBC iPlayer is arguably the best streaming service for television and radio programmes, however, a person can’t watch the BBC iPlayer Outside UK without a VPN. British Drama and Entertainment have almost become synonymous with BBC, for BBC has been outdoing its own superior service ever since it has come into action. The ordinary UK citizen still enjoys his radio programmes, and BBC provides the best of the lot.

Moreover, BBC has kept up with the times as it introduced its stellar streaming service, the BBC iPlayer, to UK citizens. People can catch all their favourite TV shows and radio programmes later using BBC iPlayer. It is one of the best streaming services of the world as all the latest content is available on-demand in stunning picture quality.

Geo-restriction of BBC iPlayer

The BBC iPlayer has been a popular streaming service in UK for a long time now, but it follows the same geo-restriction regime as is the case with other leading streaming services of the world, like Netflix. One cannot blame them for this because these services can only air content for which they have rights.

This content is not made available elsewhere by the producers and the rights provided to a select few services. This causes problems for people travelling abroad or living outside the UK. BBC iPlayer is a UK only service, which means that it cannot be used from anywhere else in the world. If you have a non-UK IP address, you will be denied access to BBC iPlayer.

Watch BBC iPlayer Outside UK using a VPN

The only thing that is keeping you from accessing BBC iPlayer is your non-UK IP address. To get past the problem of geo-restriction, simply fake your IP address so that it looks like you are accessing the internet from within the UK. This can be done using a VPN.

VPNs connect you to the internet through one of their servers. All the traffic between your system and the internet passes through these servers in place of those provide by your internet service provider. Users can choose which server they wish to connect to, and the IP address visible to anyone is that of the server and not the user’s machine.

This means that you can fake your IP to appear to be using the internet from anywhere your VPN provider has servers in. To watch BBC iPlayer, simply connect to a UK server. You should opt for a good VPN, like ExpressVPN, for this purpose. ExpressVPN has high-speed servers in more than 78 countries, and a lot of them are in UK.

The encryption provided by ExpressVPN is among the best in the business, it can be used on any platform and device, and you have 24X7 customer support service to help you out whenever you require assistance.

Conclusion

In this article, we discussed how you can watch BBC iPlayer outside UK with a VPN. VPNs like ExpressVPN can help you bypass geo-restrictions and use any geo-restricted service. The global coverage of ExpressVPN is impressive, providing you with a lot of connectivity options.

You would, of course, need a subscription with BBC iPlayer to access it from anywhere in the world. Once you have that, all you need is a subscription with ExpressVPN to watch your favourite British TV and radio programmes whenever wherever.

  1. Erm….I don’t know if you’ve actually tried this… because it now no longer works!

For quite a while now, if you are using a VPN, iPlayer won’t let you access their services, as obviously they don’t know where in the world you are, and it’s restricted to the UK! I use a VPN (PIA) and I am living in the UK, but if I want to use iPlayer or my Netflix, I have to disconnect from the VPN…and I often end up forgetting to reconnect afterwards. Grrr…tiz a PITA!

    • Phil, thanks for the sharing your experience with the community. Well, ExpressVPN works well as we tried it ourselves. No matter where you are, just select the UK based server from ExpressVPN’s servers and BINGO!
